I feel that jazz is a language that privileges freedom and search, maybe more than any other genre. A repressive movement against this type of jazz is underway, not only in Mexico, but mainly in the United States.

Jazz has always been a political movement. And these jazz leading edges are naturally subversive and political. Not as a pamphlet. Currently, to hear a solo of an instrument is already subversive because, generally, what the media or society wants are only image things, quick and premade things, not much individuality. But frequently what matters in jazz is this individual character.

The situation of jazz artists [in Mexico] is very sad, mainly because they are revered for their non-jazz work. This is, they are deeply reverenced.
