René Peñaloza Galván

(1976 – 2010) Filmmaker – Musician – Writer. He was born in Mexico City in 1976. He graduated, as a director, from the Center for Cinematographic Training, in Mexico, Bachelor of Communication from the University of Austin, Texas, Master in Dramatic Writing from the Tisch School of the Arts, of the  New York University.

Director and screenwriter, his short films have been shown at various festivals such as the Morelia International Film Festival, South by Southwest Austin, Texas, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Beirut IESAV, the Carrefour Film Festival in Paris, and the New World Images International Festival in Quebec.

His short film, Eggs, winner of the IMCINE short film competition, reached the billboards in Mexico. He participated as a producer and assistant director in various film projects.
At the same time, he performed investigative journalism, mainly to music publications and made various translations from Spanish to English and vice versa. Co-founder, along with Paulina del Paso, of The Panoramic View n experimental public art project at a food stand in Mexico City. During his last years in New York, he worked as a professor at theBrooklyn College Community Partnership, and created together with his friends, Alejandro Almanza, Jose Luis Cortes-Santander and Miguel Medrano, the jarocho punk band Bachelor Sound Machin. His documentary film Osiris and the Jarocho, which premiered after his death, won the Jose Rovirosa Award from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, for best Mexican Student Documentary Film 2010.
