René Iván Peñaloza Galván was born on June 10, 1976 at the Hospital México, in Mexico City.

Only child of Guadalupe Galván Mendieta (originally from Juan Aldama, Zacatecas) and Edilberto Peñaloza Arriaga (originally from Toluca, State of Mexico).

René wins an internship to work on the show Diagnosis Murder starring Dick Van Dyke

This year he returned to Mexico and rejoined the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica.

On August 8, 2009 he participated in the concert A Crimson Grail composed and conducted by the composer Rhys Chatham, with the participation of 200 electric guitars, 16 electric basses and percussions. This concert was held in Damrosch Park in the Upper West Side of Manhattan as part of Out of Doors Festival of Lincoln Center.

This same year it forms the Tin Light Cooperative TLC with the filmmakers Keith Miller and Begonia Colomar.

His group of friends is vast, he is joined by very dear people like his cousin Cynthia Galván y Kerri Mcdowell with whom he had a very important relationship.

Throughout his professional career he collaborates with various artists and filmmakers, including: Iván Edeza, Kelly Coats, Islam Randolph, Ken Bensinger, Jan St Werner, Rosa Barba, Heather Courtney, Mariana Chenillo, Paula Markovitch, Begoña Colomar, Katie Tibaldi and Gabriela Galván, among others.

René undergoes surgery from the glass. From this experience he writes and films what would be his last short film: Capsule Endoscopy made together with Keith Miller.

On June 4 of the same year, he was admitted to the hospital again. On June 9, he was operated on and detected a liver cancer with metastases in the spine and lungs.

On June 28 at 3:00 pm René passed away at the age of 34.

His friends and family devastated by this great loss carry out several tributes in honor of René.

In 2011, one year after his death, the Scholarship René Peñaloza Galván is inaugurates at the initiative of their parents Edilberto y Lupita. This scholarship consists of a monetary award for an outstanding student of the video career of the Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP). Every year, for five years, a ceremony is held with the support and participation of Diana Reiser Head of Operations at BCCP, Steve Ausbury Operational Director at BCCP and Gabriela Galván.
